Cinquain Poems

admin on: Year 4 Blog

4H - We have been looking at Cinquain Poems in Writing. We looked at the patterns and word types used. Can you spot any? We had a go at creating our own. Tomorrow we'll improve them further. What do you think?

                              Rabbits

                       adorable, fluffy

             hopping, bouncing, pouncing

                 running in the garden

                                 soft

                              Football

                             fun, joyful

                  running, passing, scoring

                something to happily enjoy

                            awesome

                                 Rats

                           cute, small

              scurrying, jumping, balancing

                   so gorgeous and cuddly

                              irresistible

                                                                Cake

            divine, irresistible

      dribbling, licking, scoffing

                 scrumptious

Metaphors

admin on: Year 4 Blog

This morning we have been learning about metaphors. 4RT have created a metaphor poem about sadness...

Sadness is the cloudy, wet rain sweeping away your cosy, warm heart.

Sadness is hearing someone's tears in the distance.

Sadness is a tidal wave swallowing up your love.

Sadness is the weight of the world on your shoulders.

Sadness is falling over and getting no help.

Sadness is when I have to get up in cold, wintery weather.

Sadness is loneliness.

Our visit to Wilton House Nursing Home

admin on: Year 4 Blog

Mr Briggs took four children to deliver cakes to the nursing home. We met lots of interesting people including a lady who was 103 years old! All of the residents enjoyed our cakes and were very happy to talk to us.

RE day

admin on: Year 4 Blog

Year 4 have been learning about Christianity, Judaism and Sikhism.

We discussed how each religion encourages us to help people in our community.

Jewish faith

1. Tikkun Olam

The Hebrew translates as ‘healing’ or ‘perfecting’ the world to  instil a shared responsibility in the welfare of society at large – helping others, looking after our environment, and addressing diverse human rights.

2. Gemilut Chasadim

The Hebrew literally means ‘the giving of loving-kindness’ which knows no bounds and not only teaches the art of giving but also not to expect to receive something material in return. Acts of kindness are engraved in a Jewish way of life, where individuals give selflessly of their time and of themselves.

3. Tzedek

The Hebrew translates as ‘righteousness’ and ‘justice’ and, can manifest itself through social action and acts of loving-kindness; not because it feels good but because the Jewish faith commands that it is the right thing to do.

To follow these Jewish teachings, we made and decorated cakes to give to nursing home residents. We really enjoyed baking for other people to make them happy.

A Mouse Family's Christmas

admin on: Year 4 Blog

On a cold and snowy night,

When Christmas Eve was in sight,

Baby mouse was wrapped up tight,

and the world outside was turning white.

Mince pies and milk beside the bed,

Dreams were passing through his head,

"Santa's coming" Dad mouse said,

As they waited for the mouse in red.

A fantastic poem by Matty.
